Prof. Dr. Levent Avtan is a general surgeon with more than 30 years of surgical experience across a broad range of the field. He graduated from Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the same faculty. He became an associate professor in 1998 and a full professor in 2005, serving as a faculty member at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery until 2025. He currently sees patients at Medicana Ataşehir Hospital.
He received advanced training in laparoscopic and robotic (Da Vinci) surgery at centres such as the Paris Faculty of Medicine and the University of Southern California (USC). His main areas of interest include digestive system surgery, obesity and metabolic surgery, thyroid and breast surgery, hernia surgery, and colorectal surgery.
He has authored more than 90 scientific articles and over 30 book chapters. He is a member of national and international professional bodies such as SAGES, EAES and the Turkish Surgical Society, and is among the founding members of the Turkish Society of Obesity Surgery.
